CP/PC364 Data Communications & Networks Laboratory

Introduction

Overview

Everyone will be coming into this course with a different level of experience in hardware. Everyone will have a partner and receive a lock and cabinet to store all your circuits. It would be preferrable for each group to have at least one person who has taken PC/CP200, CP/PC300 and/or PC319. Every student must read and complete the Safety Form before the first week of design (week 2). Each student will also need a lab notebook to record all their data during the lab and for their prelab information. Specifications for the lab notebook are located here.

The labs will not follow the course material, but will be used to demonstrate some of the topics you will be learning throughout the course. Each week (except the first) will have a prelab portion which you are to complete before you get to the lab to prepare you for the week's circuit. You will be required to look up information on datasheets and find/create your own circuits.

The following is some helpful material to read before you come to the first lab to help familiarize yourself with some of the equipment, basic hardware principals and how to locate information on a datasheet.

Helpful Material

  1. Resistors and Resistance
  2. Capacitors
  3. Function Generators and Oscilloscope
  4. Reading Datasheets (7.3)
  5. Tools in the lab
