Introduction

Linux on the desktop isn't supported by ITS at Laurier, although they use it on servers and other members of the Laurier community may use it on desktops and laptops. This page is intended to help with some issues I've found getting set up for myself.
If you want to suggest other things that should be on this page, you can contact Terry Sturtevant.

Connecting to the laurierwireless network

Using wicd to access the wireless network, you can setup up wireless templates. Here's one I set up:
name = laurierwireless
author = Terry Sturtevant
version = 1
require identity *Identity protected password *Password
------
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
network={
  scan_ssid=0
  ssid="laurierwireless"
  key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
  eap=TTLS
  anonymous_identity="anonymous"
  priority=10
  phase2="auth=PAP"
  identity="$_IDENTITY"
  password="$_PASSWORD"
}

To use this:
  1. Cut and paste the above code into a file. I called mine "laurierwireless".
  2. Save the file in /etc/wicd/encryption/templates.
  3. In the /etc/wicd/encryption/templates directory, there will be a file called active. Add the name of your file, eg. "laurierwireless", to the end of the file.
  4. Now when you restart wicd, you should have the option for laurierwireless which you can use. There will be boxes for your Novell ID and password.
This worked for me as of June 2012.
