Course Description: Nature of light: Huygen's principle, Fermat's principle. Geometrical optics: reflection and refraction at plane and curved surfaces, lenses and lens systems. Wave optics: interference, diffraction, polarization.
     
Prerequisites: PC131, PC132 (or PC141, PC142) and one of MA110* or MA103 or MA105 or MA101
     
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, you should be able to:
  • Design experiments
  • Review results of experiments to suggest improvements
  • Compare results from different experiments
  • Combine and summarize results from different experiments
     
Marking Scheme: 60% five labs (groups of two)
  40% lab reports (groups of two)
