Measuring Source Directionality

Once you have a baseline, and know the directionality of your meter antenna, you can determine the directionality of a source. Remember that it is critical that you maintain the correct antenna orientation for your measurements.

  1. Find contours around the source for fixed power values; in other words, find the distances in different directions corresponding to the same intensity.
  2. Sketch the area around the source, and draw in the contour lines. You may need to draw two or three different maps, in different planes, since the contours will probably be different in different orientations from the source.


Before you leave the lab, have the lab instructor sign your lab notebook immediately after your last entry.
