CP480 Wireless Communication and Networks
Radiation Patterns
Objectives
- To measure the directionality of a wireless
source.
Equipment
- wireless power meter
- meter stick and/or tape measure
Procedure
Measuring Source Directionality
Once you have a baseline, and know the directionality of your
meter antenna, you can determine the
directionality of a source.
Remember that it is critical that you maintain the correct
antenna orientation for your measurements.
- Find contours around the source for fixed power
values; in other words, find the distances in different
directions corresponding to the same intensity.
- Sketch the area around the source, and draw in the contour
lines. You may need to draw two or three different maps, in
different planes, since the contours will probably be different
in different orientations from the source.
Before you leave the lab, have the lab instructor
sign your lab notebook immediately after your last entry.
